Chimney Repair & Flashing in Reading, PA & Berks County

The chimney is the number one place a roof leaks. Cracked flashing, a crumbling crown, missing cap or spalling brick lets water straight into the house. DAG Roofs repairs the chimney and the roof around it — properly, and once.

Chimney repairs that stop leaks where they actually start

Homeowners often blame the roof for a stain near the fireplace, when the real culprit is the chimney. Every chimney penetrates the roof, and that joint relies on step flashing, counter-flashing cut into the mortar, a sound crown on top and a cap to keep rain and animals out. Any one of those failing means water inside.
DAG Roofs re-flashes chimneys with new step and counter-flashing, rebuilds cracked crowns, installs chimney caps, repoints mortar joints and repairs damaged brick. If the roof around the chimney has been leaking for a while, we also replace any rotted decking and shingles so the repair is complete.
We repair chimneys and chimney flashing across Reading, Wyomissing, Sinking Spring, Shillington, Exeter, Muhlenberg and all of Berks County.

Signs your chimney is leaking

Stains near the fireplace

A ceiling or wall stain close to the chimney is almost always flashing or crown failure.

Cracked or loose flashing

Flashing that has pulled away from the brick or relies on old caulk will leak.

Crumbling crown or mortar

A cracked concrete crown or missing mortar lets water soak into the masonry.

Water in the firebox

Rain in the fireplace means there’s no cap, or the cap has failed.

Spalling brick

Brick faces popping off after winter mean water is freezing inside the masonry.

Rust on the damper

Rust inside the chimney points to water getting in from the top.
